Methodology

This dataset tracks Game releases on Steam and cross-references each title against SteamDB and IGDB to identify its game engine, genre, and the developer's country. Manual enrichment is done for games with missing data. The table below currently covers 7,660 released games with a known engine.

Key Findings

  • Unity is the most-used engine among indie releases tracked here, appearing in 52% of 7,660 analyzed games.
  • The next most common engines are Unreal (18%) and Godot (15%).
  • Among games with a known developer location, United States is the most represented, at 30%.
